U.S. Global Strategy to Empower Adolescent Girls

The first-ever U.S. Global Strategy to Empower Adolescent Girls launched in March 2016. It brings together four U.S. government agencies to tackle barriers that keep adolescent girls from achieving their full potential.

Description

This strategy represents the cooperative efforts of the U.S. State Department, USAID, the Peace Corps, and the Millennium Challenge Corporation. It sets forth the following objectives:

  • To enhance girls’ access to quality education in safe environments;
  • To provide economic opportunities and incentives for girls and their families;
  • To empower girls with information, skills, services, and support;
  • To mobilize and educate communities to change harmful norms and practices; and
  • To strengthen policy and legal frameworks and accountability.
